Carol Jago

Carol Jago taught middle and high school in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District for over 30 years, and during this time, she wrote an education column for the Los Angeles Times.

Jago received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a Master of Science in Education and a secondary education credential from University of Southern California.

She has been an active member of ILA's Adolescent Literacy Interest Group (ALIG), receiving the group's Thought Leader Award, presenting at ALIG's workshops at ILA’s annual conference, and serving as ALIG vice president. She has contributed as a panelist for the NAEP Reading and Writing Frameworks and has served as a member of the National Assessment Governing Board.

Her publications include With Rigor for All, Beyond Standards: Excellence in the High School English Classroom, Cohesive Writing: Why Concept Is Not Enough and, most recently, The Book in Question: Why and How Reading Is in Crisis, all published with Heinemann.
