Shane Templeton
Shane Templeton is Foundation Professor Emeritus of Literacy Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, and a former classroom teacher at the primary and secondary levels. He received a BA in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MEd and PhD in reading education from the University of Virginia. A leading investigator and consultant in the areas of spelling and vocabulary development, Templeton’s research has been published in journals including Reading Research Quarterly, Applied Psycholinguistics, Reading Psychology, The Reading Teacher, Elementary School Journal, and Journal of Education, as well as in edited volumes including the Handbook of Reading Research and the Handbook of Research on Teaching the English Language Arts (both published with Routledge).
In addition to the Words Their Way series, Templeton has authored or coauthored several books on the teaching of literacy and word study including Teaching Reading and Writing: The Developmental Approach and Vocabulary Their Way: Word Study for Middle and Secondary Students (all published with Pearson). Templeton was inducted into the Reading Hall of Fame in 2022.
