P. David Pearson

Rob Tierney is Dean Emeritus and Professor Emeritus of Language and Literacy Education at the University of British Columbia. P. David Pearson is Dean Emeritus and the Evelyn Lois Corey Emeritus Chair in Instructional Science in the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley. Both Rob and David have served as editors of Reading Research Quarterly and chaired a number of committees for the International Literacy Association (ILA). Rob is the Immediate Past President of the ILA Board of Directors. They are both past presidents of the Literacy Research Association. David is a member of the National Academy of Education and a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association; he has served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Reading for the National Assessment of Educational Progress. They both are recipients of the William S. Gray Citation of Merit for contributions to the reading field. They have both published numerous articles that have appeared in the leading peer-reviewed journals in literacy and taken the lead on publications and frameworks that have been developed for different organizations. In 2021, Teachers College Press published their coauthored book, A History of Literacy Education: Waves of Research and Practice.
