A New Model for Teaching Phonics, Reading, and Writing

Date: April 30, 2024

Time: 03:00PM - 04:30PM

You must be registered to participate!

In this ILA Webinar, speakers Dominic Wyse and Charlotte Hacking will share a new model of instruction: the Double Helix of Reading and Writing. This new model, rooted in current research, calls for a shift from narrow pedagogy and rigid assessments toward more effective holistic and dynamic teaching.

The speakers will share how to apply their model in the classroom, seamlessly integrating phonics, reading, and writing in teaching.

Participants will learn

  • How the Double Helix of Reading and Writing model fits within the science of reading
  • Why it’s important to identify misconceptions surrounding phonics instruction—and how to do it
  • Methods that promote a research-based approach to teaching reading and writing effectively

Who should register: School-based educators, principals, teacher educators, and preservice teachers
