Eliza Braden

Eliza G. Braden, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Elementary Education in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina in the Department of Teacher Education. She brings a wealth of practical experience in the education sector, having previously worked as an elementary teacher, ESOL instructor, and reading interventionist. Dr. Braden leads large grant initiatives and conducts professional development in grades three through five classrooms. Dr. Braden’s research interests are focused on critical literacy and language practices of Black and Latinx children and their families, culturally relevant teaching, and critical multicultural literature. Her passion for these areas led to her published book Revolutionary Love: Creating Culturally Inclusive Literacy Classrooms. Braden also serves as the editor of The Reading Teacher, a leading practitioner journal under the International Literacy Association (ILA). Her work is published in a range of journals such as the Journal of Early Childhood Literacy, International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education (QSE), Theory into Practice, Journal of Children’s Literature, and Reading Research Quarterly.
