Hilda Martinez, a National Board Certified Teacher, has spent the last 25 years in inner-city schools at the elementary level. She has a passion for literacy and is currently a Response to Intervention teacher, a role in which she helps design and implement action plans for students in need of Tier 2 and 3 support. She earned her master’s in Curriculum and Instruction under the guidance of Douglas Fisher and Diane Lapp from San Diego State University, and she is BLCAD (Bilingual Authorization) certified. Martinez has 10 years of experience teaching in bilingual (Spanish) classrooms and has presented at conferences on topics that support English learners, close reading, guided reading, and the gradual release of responsibility. She is also a featured contributor in Fisher, Nancy Frey, and John Hattie’s Visible Learning for Literacy and Visible Learning for Mathematics.
Martinez currently teaches at Zamorano Fine Arts Academy, an arts magnet school in the San Diego Unified School District. She was named the 2019 San Diego Unified School District Elementary School Teacher of the Year and the 2020 San Diego County Teacher of the Year.
