Shontoria Walker

Dr. Shontoria Walker is a recent graduate from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas with a degree in Professional Leadership with an emphasis in Literacy. Her research focus is on using culturally relevant pedagogy to influence literacy achievement for Middle School Black Male Students. She currently works as a Campus Instructional Specialist at the Southwest Schools district in Houston, Texas. In her everyday work she is committed to collaborating with teachers, administrators and district leaders to ensure that all students receive an equitable literacy education across the district. In addition to serving as the Senior Managing Director of Black Empowerment for Education PowerEd. Her honors and awards include being inducted into the International Literacy Association’s 30 under 30 cohort in 2019. Her published articles can be found in various online publications such as The Houston Chronicle, The Education Post, The Christian Science Monitor and The Walton Foundation. Graduating with distinction as summa cum laude of her doctorate cohort, her passion and dedication to literacy education and equitable educational policy laws is interminable.
