Translanguaging, a practice that allows for flexibility in how bi/multilingual learners express themselves and make meaning, welcomes students’ home languages as assets in the classroom.
This ILA Intensive, hosted by Dr. Rabia Hos, focuses on translanguaging strategies that support learners ages 12 and up. Keynote speakers include Dr. Ofelia García, the leading scholar whose work has brought translanguaging to the forefront of multilingual instruction, and Dr. Kate Seltzer, a coauthor of García’s whose research interests are rooted in her experiences teaching emergent bilingual high school students.
Featured session speakers will model specific strategies on classroom-ready instructional ideas, family engagement, and more. Participants will take away clear, concrete ideas for implementing a translanguaging design for literacy instruction—one that not only acknowledges but also embraces the full linguistic repertoire of multilingual learners.
ILA Digital Events fees are nonrefundable. ILA reserves the right to make presenter substitutions if necessary due to extenuating circumstances.
