Jahsha Tabron has more than 21 years of experience in special education, which includes 10 years in educational leadership. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from Delaware State University and a master’s in school leadership and administration from Wilmington University. She cotaught English at Brandywine High School in Wilmington, DE, and now serves the school as the ninth-grade dean of students. She primarily works with ninth-grade students transitioning to high school.
To make learning relevant to her students, Tabron builds connections before content, supports academic rigor, and works to help students make connections to themselves, their work, and the real world. She fosters an environment where students become active, valued participants in their learning experiences. Additionally, Tabron has expertise in working with students and families to foster community connections between home, school, and educational agencies. She is an advocate for the inclusion of student and family voices in school communities because she understands the importance of building relationships; she sees this as the key to facilitating academic and emotional success.
Tabron works to uphold equitable educational practices. She facilitates opportunities for fellow educators to foster student-centered growth. She mentors new teachers in coteaching and special education compliance requirements necessary for developing individualized education plans for students. Tabron, who was selected as the 2022 Delaware State Teacher of the Year, believes that success lies in self-reflection. She is always willing to re-examine her work and the impact that it has on her students and the community.
